Single Momma Struggles part 2

I think the most complicated part of my whole situation is the fact that Dylan's family are actively involved in Tyrus' life. I'm not sure how ab-normal this is, nor do I know anyone who is in the exact same situation. I don't know the protocol or how to deal with it, most of the time.

Dylan's sister and I get along great, there is absolutely no issues there. She had welcomed us with open arms and hasn't looked back. She loves Tyrus and proudly tells people that he's her nephew. It makes me so happy! She's even helped throw his his first birthday party in her home :)

The complications come from Dylan's mom and dad. I had a pretty good relationship with Dylan's mom in the past, but it wasn't perfect. I have my own theories as to why, but it doesn't matter anymore. She has taken on the grandma role very well, this is her first grand baby! She comes once a week and takes Tyrus for big, long walks. It gives me 2.5-3 hours to clean the house, editing pictures, or sit in complete quietness. It's blissful! We recently started talking about her taking Tyrus for longer periods of time (though he's still breast fed), but the thought of having 4 hours to myself sounds amazing!!! I'm excited about that. Tyrus loves her to pieces.

However, Dylan's dad is another story. His dad doesn't like me and made it very clear numerous times throughout our 2.5 year relationship. He felt as though I was a bad seed for Dylan and that I was holding him back. This is something that I feel was far from the truth. Regardless, he has only met his grandson four times, once at 4 months, again at 8 months, at his 1st birthday party, and just after Christmas. Part of me is puzzled as to why he doesn't want to spend more time with Tyrus. Dylan's sister tries to see him at least once a week, sometimes more, but his dad puts in no effort. It's hard for me because Tyrus won't remember him. I received an email shortly after Tyrus' first birthday from Dylan's dad that pretty much said he wants to be a regular in his life... I'm ok with that, but I have my boundaries. Tyrus doesn't know him, so I won't allow him to just take my son. I also won't allow him to transport my son due to his past issues with alcohol and driving (of which I heard from Dylan). I don't think Dylan's dad was too fond about the boundaries because I heard nothing back from him.

I have a strong feeling that this is the start to a never-ending battle... that's the one thing I didn't think about when I chose to allow Dylan's family into our lives.
